Pitch Season 1 Episde 4 'The Break' Review!

Ginny's World Is Turned Upside Down and The All Star Game Has It's Ups And Downs....

This week on Pitch drama was at an all time high.Last week's episode was so phenomenal I knew that this week's episode had to be great considering Beanball was an amazing episode.

So did 'The Break' live up to Beanball?

WARNING: SPOILERS OF PITCH SEASON 1 EPISODE 4 'THE BREAK' AHEAD! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

This episode was once again about the characters' personal lives. It was about Ginny and her mom's relationship. It was about Mike and how much longer he has for baseball. It was about Blip as a husband and father. The episode begins with Baker Nation campaigning for Ginny to play in the All Star Game by using #PutHerInTheGame to convince her to be given a fair chance.  I feel as if this was a real thing, #PutHerInTheGame would be an actual trending hashtag because who wouldn't want to see a woman in MLB All Star Game?

The episode then goes to Mike's house. Mike's relationship with Amelia is actually becoming a real one. As Mike is with Amelia, Mike's back as we learned from last week's episode got even more worse and his injury is intensifying. Mike then goes back about thinking about how much longer his body has left for baseball and Amelia has booked him to be a sports analyst for the post all star game as its his backup plan for after baseball.
Ginny is upset with Evelyn since her mother, Janet Baker, is coming for town and Evelyn can't be buffer this time round for the two of them. In fact, Evelyn is excited Blip didn't make the All Star team because they are going on a family vacation which is why she is not with Ginny in her hour of need: Her Mother visiting, which brings me to this week's flashbacks.
Last week's flashbacks was all about Ginny's first love with a ball player, this week it was all about a different relationship: Her mother. In present day Ginny is shown to have some resentment towards her mother, which the flashbacks show Janet as a sweet, loving mother figure so why does Ginny have a cold shoulder for her?

In a subplot for this episode, Oscar is having Ronda lie about his whereabouts for him. Turns out, Oscar's going behind the team's back and signing Star Cuban Catcher, Livan Duarte.

In the Home Run derby we figure out that Ginny feels that she's a fraud for being in the national team. After the derby, Ginny is complaining about dinner with her mom and Mike invites himself to be a buffer between the two!! HE INVITED HIMSELF TO COME WITH GINNY TO MEET HER MOM?? LIKE A MEET THE PARENTS THING?? Well, not quite. Ginny pulls a shocker on Mike by saying he invited his secret hush hush girlfriend, Amelia, which catches him off-guard!

The dinner turns out to be a huge disaster! Janet drops a huge bomb on Ginny by telling her that she has a new boyfriend who Ginny may or may not know.

The dinner becomes even more awkward with Mike and Amelia being hush hush with their secret and Mike oblivious to the whole situation of Kevin not being able to come to the All Star Game and selflessly giving Kevin his ticket, angering everyone except Janet and Kevin
Back in flashback universe, we see how hard it was for Ginny as a kid to be a normal kid and ball player. As a dance is approaching Ginny's dad gives her a choice to either go be normal and choose the dance instead of baseball or miss out on the dance and go train for baseball, what a situation let down her father or mother.
Being in those situations must have been so hard. Thinking about that, this makes me realize how some of us take advantage of events like that (Dances, Parties, etc) and even normal things like friends or relationships because kids like Ginny, determined athletes with a heart, had to give it up and work hard and miss on these fun events.

Back to the dinner, The dinner becomes even more awkward. Kevin tries to play stepfather and mentions Ginny's real father. With Kevin doing this, chaos ensues at the dinner table which ends with Amelia and Mike paying!

In the subplot, Blip gets a phone call that changes everything. At a last minute, Blip is choosen to the All Star team and Evelyn is slightly disappointed. Evelyn is so angry at Blip for choosing baseball over their family vacation. Meagan's acting is so surreal she did a good job conveying her emotions on screen.
After this emotional scene, we are brought to the All Star Game. Might I just say that Blip, Mike, and Ginny all suited up on the way to the field was just perfect?
Might have been one my favorite moments from the episode!
The episode then goes to announce all the All Stars and we then find out Ginny's mother and her boyfriend didn't make it to the game or use Mike's seats.
Ginny is facing off real Ball Player El Salvador Perez, justifying she's an all star. El Salvador Perez scores a run and Ginny cannot be anymore dissapointed at herself.
Not only is Ginny disapointed at herself but her mother didn't show and that techinically was why she didn't do such a great job: Pressure.
Back to flashbacks, we finally found out why Ginny pushed her mother away and how she became a Daddy's Girl. As her mother said earlier in the episode, if Ginny wanted an out from baseball all she had to do was say the word. Ginny comes home earlier from school to tell her mom she wanted out and catches her canoodling with another man who just happens to be Kevin. With this she pushed her mother away and kept pursuing baseball, who knows what would have happend if she didn't know? Maybe she wouldn't be in the MLB?
We are then brought back to Amsterdam and Oscar is talking to Livan Duarte and he signs him with the Padres but already doesn't want to come second to Mike Lawson.
Speaking of Lawson, we are brought to his sports analyst broadcast and if anyone was president of the Ginny Baker fan club I think he is king! Once again another amazing Pep Talk/Defense for Ginny!

See what I mean? Another amazing display of how much he admires Baker! Which brings me to his finding out of Livan possibly taking his job. Man, I sense a rivalry in the next episode.
Ginny and her mother then share a sentimental scene. I have to say what a performance Kylie Bunbury! It was very heartfelt and especially I give kudos to Ginny for forgiving her mom, definitely quite a moment and tear jerker!
Blip then makes it back to Florida and tells Evelyn she's his biggest moment over any baseball game. These two are just Relationship Goals!
Mike bored calls someone and I was in my head like oh great here we go with Amelia but of course a plot twist ensued and Mike called Ginny! Their conversation couldn't have been anymore adorable!

These two are just so adorable! Perfect way to end the episode! Anybody see the irony? In the Interim, Mike said he misses having someone to talk to at night and he called Ginny, not Amelia so that must mean something.

The Break lives up to Beanball but frankly I enjoyed more Beanball but they were both on the same level. The Break gets a 9.7/10!
